The library

Getting into the groove of things with four children is slowly taking shape. Yesterday I took them on their first outing by myself, without any backup. Granted it was only to the library, for 30 minutes, but considering that this is a place where you are still expected to be reasonably quiet, I thought that this was a daring feat. It went pretty well, until the very end that is, when the 1 year old fell off of a huge stuffed turtle and screamed bloody murder. I count that successful, I mean, the fact that she was crying over a true injury and not just for a non-cry-worthy issue (i.e. not getting her way.)

So, it went well. Although the librarians (are they still called that?) were probably cursing us under their breath for the exorbitant amount of books that we left out on the tables. I can't help it that they post signs all over the place that say "Do not reshelf book, study in progress" The mom in me wants to reshelf the books. I truly leave there feeling guilty for leaving everything that we (my kids) have pulled off the shelf looked at during our visit there. I'm just hoping that when other people with small children are there, that it looks the same when they leave too.

What are they studying anyway?

Thanks!

Thank you everyone (all eight of you!) for leaving me comments! I guess since I have a small following, I will press on in my blogging (sorry kids- no breakfast today).

Anyone.....anyone?

Does anyone read my blog? Just wondering, since I hardly ever get any comments. I will give credit to some faithful few who have throughout the year given me some feedback. I can always count on my friends Hannah J. and Phoebe to occasionally pull through for a comment. But, yes, I want more! DH- do you read me?!!

So, just for this one post, I am asking-no, begging, you guys to please leave me a comment and then you will never have to again! I'm just curious of who, if anyone, is really reading this. It doesn't have to be anything lengthy or profound. Even just a simple "Me-Tarzan-me-read-blog" or "Yo" would make me so happy. Just so I know that saving the funny stories in my head until I can get a minute on the computer is not all in vain. And that the mornings my children are starving for breakfast because I'm "almost done with this post" is not all for nothing. I am just as guilty at reading other peoples blog religiously and not leaving comments so, I am trying to do better at this myself! Okay, I've gone on enough about comments:) Can anyone guess what movie my post title is from? (think 80's) DH-you don't count. I mean- you do- just not for guessing on this!

Interpreting three year olds

Abby came up to me yesterday and hugged me tight. I was so touched by her affection, until she said "Mommy, you're a great big mommy." I'm really hoping for the best meaning of this statement, but given the fact that I just had a baby, I'm not sure what she was really trying to say. I'm taking it to mean, "Mommy, you're a wonderful, grown-up mommy," instead of "Mommy, you're a huge gigantic mommy." With three year olds, you just never know.

Mr. Smarty Pants

Okay, I have to brag on my DS-5 a little bit. He is so stinkin' smart that I just am constantly amazed at the amount of useful and sometimes useless information that he retains in his little brain. He is constantly in his room reading, so I try to always have books for him that he's interested in. Right now it's astronomy. So, he will come and tell us all these facts about planets-like the order of them and characteristics of each one (I've really been learning a lot!), and inevitably when the subject of Uranus comes up, my husband, who is mentally stuck in Jr. High, will giggle to himself. I'm sure DS will too, once we start anatomy!

His previous interest had been animals. So, one day, while I was still very pregnant, I had been cooking dinner. I came out of the kitchen and exclaimed "I am burning up!" To which DS replied "Probably because you're warm-blooded." I said "how did you know that?" He replied matter-of-factly "because, all mammals are warm-blooded" What I really meant was "I know that, but how did you know that?" I am supposed to be the teacher here, right?

Hilarious!

This was too funny- I had to post it!! I don't comment too often on homeschooling, but this does describe me to a tee! I have literally told DS "Do not ask to watch a movie when you're at your friend's house!" as we were driving there!

...and then there were four

Well, it's been 10 days since little Ava was born, so I guess I had better start blogging again! Aaron has been able to have two weeks at home with us! He has been a HUGE blessing and help to me. I am dreading the day that he has to go back to work! How am I going to take care of four children ages 5 and under?! Lots of prayer and grace will carry me through these difficult times I know, but I have to constantly remind myself of this. Why am I so forgetful of how good God is? I am just like the Israelites wandering through the desert!

Ava really is doing well, sleeping and eating are pretty much filling her days right now! Speaking of filling- pooping- that's the other half of her day! Abby is really interested in the decreased size of my belly and checks it every day by asking "is your belly button like mine now?" Aaron Job asked me the other day "can you bend over now?" I answered yes, that I could, but I still wasn't going to pick up his toys for him! Anna has learned how to "shh" with her finger held up to her mouth and then growls (loudly) at Ava. It's not a jealous growl. I think it's affectionate- she growls at dogs too, and she likes them! It's a sad comparison, I know, but it's the only one I can come up with that makes me think that she really likes her baby sister!

And, I had to add a picture to this post. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for you all to see. I told you earlier that Aaron had been home. This was really a "Kodak moment" as I have never seen this done before in our 10 years of marriage!

Now, don't get me wrong- Aaron really is sort of a clean freak. He loves to vacuum, irons his shirts better that I do, and just really likes things to be put in their place, but this is one thing that he has never done before! Like I said, he has been a huge help to me this week. I am willing to hire him out if any of you need your floors done! My floors are so shiny, that I don't cringe when one of my kids eats something off the floor before I catch them! I think he's outside cleaning the van now! :)
